Bei der Escallonie handelt es sich um einen immergrünen Zwergstrauch. Er wird ca. 1 m hoch und breit. Die rosafarbene Blüte erscheint von Mai bis Juni. Die zahlreichen Blüten über mehrere Wochen machen den Zierwert dieses hübschen Gehölzes aus.

 Die Escallonie muss aber einen sehr sonnigen und geschützten Standort erhalten. In strengen Wintern sollte unbedingt ein Winterschutz angebracht werden. Der Strauch kann salzhaltige Luft gut vertragen.
