Japanische Weißdolde

Rhaphiolepis umbellata ist ein immergrüner, rundlich wachsender Kleinstrauch der seinen Ursprung im asiatischen Raum hat. Seine dicken ledrigen Blätter sind am Rand  leicht gezahnt, die Oberseite ist tiefgrün während die Unterseite flockig filzig ist. Die weißen erdbeerartigen Blüten mit kräftig roten Staubgefäßen wachsen an langen Rispen ab Mai bis Juni. Sie sind stark duftend. Im Herbst entwickeln sich dann die blauschwarzen kugeligen dekorativen Früchte.

Die Japanische Weißdolde möchte (wie auch Rhododendron) einen humosen und sauren Boden. Der Standort sollte geschützt und sonnig sein. Wir empfehlen, Raphiolepis umbellata in den meisten Gebieten Deutschlands als Kübelpflanze zu kultivieren.
